Clayton Calvert
Clayton Calvert is a painter, sculptor, video, and installation artist as well as a curator. Calvert’s painting practice explores the dialogue between representation and abstraction. His sculptural output is primarily concerned with the relationships that objects have with each other and surrounding spaces. Calvert’s oeuvre using drones is concerned with both aesthetics and documentation. His artistic practice distills the essential elements of experiences into a visual language. He is particularly interested in the fleeting nature of experience and how to translate that into something more permanent. Calvert uses carefully selected materials when creating his art and he is a proponent of all kinds of mixed media. Calvert's art is a testament to the tactile power of composition, color, texture, and form as well as a documentation of moments in time.
Calvert studied with renowned painters Carlo Maria Mariani and John Foote as well as with esteemed sculptor Thomas Lollar. He attended Bard High School Early College '05 and is an alumnus of The George Washington University '08. Calvert's various projects have led to exhibitions around the world and his work can be found in numerous private as well as corporate collections.
